Residents demand strict crackdown as banned metallic kite strings continue to pose lethal threat
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A young man was critically injured after a sharp kite string slit his throat in the New Chungi area of Dera Ismail Khan, sparking renewed calls for strict enforcement of a ban on dangerous kite-flying materials.
The victim, identified as Bilal, son of Faheem, was reportedly passing through the street when a sharp, metallic-coated string suddenly struck his neck, causing severe bleeding within moments, according to eyewitnesses.
Local residents rushed the injured youth to the District Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency ward. Hospital sources described his condition as critical.
The incident triggered panic in the neighborhood, with residents expressing outrage over the continued use of hazardous kite strings despite official restrictions. Citizens said metallic and chemically coated strings remain easily available and are frequently used in open violation of the law.
Community members urged authorities to launch an immediate crackdown, warning that failure to act could result in further tragic incidents.
The latest case once again raises urgent questions about enforcement lapses and public safety in the city.
