A senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Manzoor ul Ahsan Munshi has sparked controversy after a video surfaced online in which he allegedly threatened voters.
In the viral clip Munshi a former BNP candidate from the Comilla 4 (Debidwar) constituency appears to warn a group of people against voting for rival parties. He can be heard saying that if the BNP comes to power and they vote for another party, he would not spare them even suggesting that their homes could be burned.
The video quickly spread across social media, triggering public criticism and concern. Following the backlash the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee took notice and summoned Munshi directing him to appear in person and submit a written explanation.
The BNP also responded by distancing itself from the remarks. The party stated that the comments violated its policies and disciplinary standards announcing Munshi’s expulsion.
Munshi has denied the allegations claiming his words were taken out of context. He argued that the footage was edited and that his remarks were made in a moment of frustration.
The incident has reignited debate over political conduct and voter intimidation in Bangladesh.
