ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Thursday discussed bilateral defence cooperation and global security with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman.
In a post on X Prince Khalid said he met Field Marshal Munir to reaffirm the strong relations and strategic defence partnership between the two countries. He added that both sides discussed joint efforts to promote global peace and security in line with shared interests.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain longstanding strategic and military ties. In September last year, the two countries signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement declaring that any aggression against either nation would be considered an attack on both.
The agreement signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Riyadh underscored commitments to enhance defence cooperation regional stability and joint deterrence.
Saudi Arabia has also provided significant financial support to Pakistan. In 2018 Riyadh announced a $6 billion assistance package including central bank deposits and deferred oil payments, later rolling over deposits to help stabilise Pakistan’s economy.
Recent reports indicate discussions between the two countries on expanding defence collaboration including potential military agreements. Analysts view the evolving partnership as reflective of deepening strategic alignment amid shifting regional dynamics.
