Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated that China will neither accept nor tolerate Taiwan’s independence, emphasizing that it remains a critical red line for Beijing.

According to foreign media reports, Xi made these remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Taiwanese opposition leader Cheng Li-wun. He stated that the world today is not entirely peaceful and that peace is extremely valuable, urging all sides to work toward stability.

Xi stressed that people living on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese and share a common desire for peace. He added that harmony within a family leads to prosperity, drawing a parallel to cross-strait relations.

However, he warned that any move toward Taiwan independence poses the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region. “We will never tolerate or forgive attempts to pursue Taiwan’s independence,” Xi said firmly.

During the meeting, Cheng Li-wun expressed support for cooperation, stating that both sides should work together to build a modern Chinese society.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over Taiwan’s political status, with Beijing continuing to push for reunification while strongly opposing any separatist movements.
