ISLAMABAD: Conflicting statements surrounding the recent medical examination of former Prime Minister Imran Khan have intensified political debate, despite initial indications from attending physicians that his treatment was satisfactory.
According to sources, two senior doctors from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences examined Khan at Adiala Jail alongside PTI-nominated physician Dr. Nadeem Qureshi. A subsequent briefing was given to senior opposition figures, including Raja Nasir Abbas and Gohar Ali Khan, at PIMS.
Sources said a 45-minute speakerphone consultation was also held with doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, including Dr. Khurram Mirza and Dr. Asim Yusuf, to review test results and treatment protocols. The consultation reportedly described the care as satisfactory and in line with standard medical guidelines.
Medical records, including summaries and test reports, were shared with PTI-nominated doctors with the patient’s consent. A minor increase in cholesterol levels was noted, but no immediate additional intervention was recommended.
However, ambiguity arose after Dr. Asim Yusuf released a video statement the following day, saying he could neither confirm nor deny certain details because he had not personally examined Khan.
Despite the reported medical reassurances, PTI continued planning protests. Sources claim party leadership was informed of the findings but maintained a firm political stance, leaving uncertainty over the broader implications of the episode.
