PESHAWAR: (Anwarzeb Khan) A delegation from Tehreek Paigham-e-Ehsas Insaniyat met prison authorities in Peshawar to discuss the release and rehabilitation of inmates who have completed their sentences but remain incarcerated due to their inability to pay fines.
The delegation was led by the organization’s founder, Ayaz Ahmad Awan, and included Chairman Khawaja Sahib, Muhammad Aqeel Rashid Awan, and former provincial assembly candidate Mehad Tariq Awan. The team held detailed discussions with the Superintendent of Peshawar Jail regarding challenges faced by prisoners and potential humanitarian support.
During the meeting, officials highlighted that several inmates remain in custody despite completing their sentences because they lack financial resources to pay court-imposed penalties. The visiting delegation expressed concern and explored possible collaborative solutions to facilitate their release.
The prison superintendent also briefed the delegation about ongoing rehabilitation initiatives, particularly for inmates convicted of drug-related offenses. According to prison officials, dedicated rehabilitation spaces have been established where affected inmates receive proper medical treatment and counseling. These programs aim to help prisoners reintegrate into society and discourage them from returning to substance abuse after completing their sentences.
Additionally, discussions covered various issues faced by prisoners, including access to medicines and essential facilities. Both the prison administration and the visiting organization agreed to work jointly to address these concerns and improve conditions for inmates.
Representatives of Tehreek Paigham-e-Ehsas Insaniyat reiterated their commitment to humanitarian service, emphasizing that supporting vulnerable individuals contributes to broader social welfare and community stability.
