ISLAMABAD: (Yaseen Hashmi) The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has announced the minimum amount for Sadqa-e-Fitr and Fidya-e-Sawm for the current year, setting the base rate at Rs300 per person, officials said.
According to the council’s statement, the minimum contribution applies to individuals calculating Sadqa-e-Fitr based on wheat. The council added that individuals who calculate the charity using barley, dates, or raisins must pay higher amounts. The estimated Sadqa-e-Fitr and Fidya-e-Sawm amount is approximately Rs1,100 when calculated using barley and Rs1,600 when calculated using dates.
Religious scholars emphasize that Sadqa-e-Fitr is mandatory for every Muslim, including men, women, and children, provided they possess financial means beyond basic necessities. The charity is intended to assist underprivileged families ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The council also reiterated religious rulings regarding intentional violation of fasting during Ramadan. It stated that individuals who deliberately break a fast are required to offer Kaffarah, which includes fasting continuously for 60 days or feeding 60 needy persons two meals each.
