Explosive-laden vehicle rams security post in Mamond’s Malingi area as officials condemn rising violence near Afghan border
BAJAUR: (Anwarzeb Khan) A suicide car bombing struck a joint security checkpoint in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal district of Bajaur District on Tuesday, killing at least 10 personnel, police officials confirmed.
According to local authorities, an explosives-packed vehicle rammed into a Frontier Corps (FC) and police check post in the Mamond subdivision’s Malingi area. Among the dead were nine FC troops and one police officer, while two others were injured. Rescue teams continued clearing debris amid fears more victims could be trapped.
Security officials said the targeted building previously housed a madrassa before being converted into a security installation. No group immediately claimed responsibility, and the Pakistan Army had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, calling the loss of security personnel and a child “deeply tragic.” He directed emergency services to accelerate rescue operations and pledged full support to victims’ families, stressing that terrorism remains a shared national challenge.
The Mamond region lies near the Afghanistan border, about 12–15 kilometers from Inayat Killi bazaar. Bajaur has witnessed recurring militant violence in recent months, underscoring ongoing security concerns in the former tribal belt.
