Security forces intercept militant movement along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, intensifying counterterrorism efforts under Azm-e-Istehkam.
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces killed eight militants during an intelligence-based operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan district on April 1, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
Border Operation and Key Developments
The military’s media wing said troops detected the movement of a group identified as “khwarij” near the border and engaged them in a precise and coordinated operation. All eight militants, described as belonging to the Indian-backed group Fitna al Khwarij, were killed during the exchange. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
The statement reiterated Pakistan’s concerns over what it called the Afghan Taliban government’s failure to ensure effective border management. It urged authorities in Afghanistan to prevent the use of their territory for cross-border attacks and to stop involvement of their nationals in militant activities inside Pakistan.
Security forces said a sanitization operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining threats. The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign to eradicate foreign-sponsored militancy from the country.
