ISLAMABAD: (Ayesha Naz) Authorities declared a medical emergency at major government hospitals in Pakistan’s Federal Capital following an explosion reported at an Imambargah “Khadija tul Kubra” in the Shahzad Town area, prompting an immediate mobilization of emergency services and medical staff, officials said.
According to hospital spokespersons, an emergency was imposed at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on the directives of the hospital’s executive director. The Federal Government Polyclinic (Polyclinic Hospital) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Hospital also activated emergency protocols to manage the influx of casualties.
Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the blast, transporting injured individuals to nearby hospitals, primarily PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital, for urgent medical treatment. Hospital administrations confirmed that multiple specialized departments have been placed on high alert to handle the situation effectively.
At PIMS, the main emergency ward, orthopedic department, burn center, and neurology department have been fully activated. Additional medical staff have been called in to ensure prompt treatment of the wounded. Officials stated that hospital teams are working around the clock to provide critical care and stabilize patients.
Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the cause of the explosion or the exact number of casualties. Security agencies have reportedly cordoned off the affected area while investigations are underway.
