Rawalpindi:(Syed Muhammad Yaseen Hashmi) The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Rawalpindi has uncovered a gang involved in defrauding citizens of millions of rupees by posing as relatives on WhatsApp.
According to NCCIA officials, the accused, identified as Danish Tauqeer, impersonated citizens’ nephew and used fake emergency situations to solicit money. Acting swiftly, the agency arrested the suspect from Kallar Kahar.
Authorities stated that during the operation, the mobile phone used in the fraudulent activities was recovered from the suspect. Using this device, the accused contacted multiple citizens and carried out several fraud attempts. Officials added that the timely action successfully dismantled a major online fraud network.
The NCCIA has issued a public warning, urging citizens not to trust requests for money received through social media or WhatsApp from unknown or suspicious individuals claiming to be relatives. Citizens are advised to always verify such requests through a direct phone call before transferring any money.
Further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SHO NCCIA Mehboob Ilahi Butt, with the active involvement of team member Wasif Shah.
