In Riyadh, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a key phone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, marking the first official contact between the two countries since recent regional escalation.
The discussion came after Iran launched strikes on Gulf neighbours in response to Israeli-American attacks. According to Saudi officials, the call focused on reviewing the evolving situation and exploring ways to reduce tensions and restore regional stability.
The development follows the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, raising hopes for broader de-escalation across the Middle East. Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire and expressed optimism that it would lead to a comprehensive and sustainable peace process.
Prince Faisal also held discussions with regional counterparts, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ayman Safadi, and Hakan Fidan. All parties welcomed diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability.
Saudi Arabia also stressed the need to halt attacks in the Gulf and ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global trade route.
Additionally, the Kingdom praised the mediation efforts of Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir in securing the ceasefire, highlighting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in promoting regional peace.
