Islamabad: Former chief of army staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), was hospitalized after sustaining an injury from a fall at his residence, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed Thursday. He is currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
According to a brief ISPR statement, Bajwa was injured after slipping at home, though no further details about the nature of the injury or his condition were provided. Family members have reassured the public regarding his health. In a social media video, Bajwa’s brother-in-law, Naeem Ghumman, said the former general sustained a head injury while barefoot but added that medical examinations and all necessary tests revealed no serious issues. “He is 100 percent out of danger,” Ghumman stated.
Bajwa, 65, served as Pakistan’s 10th chief of army staff from November 29, 2016, to November 29, 2022, including a tenure extension in 2019. Since his retirement, he has largely stayed away from public life. The news of his hospitalization has sparked concern nationwide, with officials and citizens expressing well-wishes for his speedy recovery.
