Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says Washington now understands Tehran’s stance but must take concrete steps to restore confidence.
ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the United States must take practical steps to rebuild trust with Iran after the latest round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington ended without a breakthrough.
Speaking after the talks, Ghalibaf said Iran had presented “forward-looking initiatives” aimed at resolving key disputes, but the U.S. side failed to create sufficient confidence among Iranian negotiators, resulting in a stalemate.
He added that Washington now has a clearer understanding of Iran’s logic and guiding principles, particularly regarding its core demands. “The responsibility now lies with the United States to decide whether it is willing and able to take the necessary steps to regain Iran’s trust,” he said.
The negotiations, held in Islamabad, come amid heightened tensions, with both sides maintaining firm positions on major issues, including security concerns and nuclear policy.
Ghalibaf also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the talks, describing its role as constructive during a sensitive phase of diplomatic engagement.
