Residents say repeated neglect has left the remote village dependent on self-help solutions amid worsening infrastructure conditions.
GILJHA, South Waziristan Lower: Residents of Ghilja village continue to live without basic civic facilities, highlighting long-standing infrastructure neglect in the remote region, local leaders and community members said.
Ahmed Wazir, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Village Council Ghilja, expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions, saying the area remains largely ignored by authorities. He stated that recent heavy rains caused flooding in a local stream, leaving residents stranded in their homes for several days as transportation routes were completely cut off.
Following the disruption, villagers constructed a temporary wooden bridge on their own to restore limited mobility. Ahmed Wazir added that this was not the first instance of self-help, noting that residents had earlier used gravel to make the village road passable due to official inaction.
He urged Member of National Assembly Zubair Khan Wazir, Member of Provincial Assembly Ajab Gul Wazir, and Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman to prioritize construction of permanent roads, provision of clean drinking water, and a durable bridge.
Locals warned that without urgent intervention, living conditions could worsen further in the coming months.
