Gul Plaza Fire Kills Nearly 80; Authorities Reject ‘Short Circuit’ Explanation

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

KARACHI: (Click Pakistan) Authorities have ruled out a simple electrical short circuit as the only reason of the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi’s South District, in which nearly eighty people were killed and dozens remain missing, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso told journalists on Wednesday that the scale of the tragedy demands a complete investigation. “such a big fire cannot be defined by short circuit alone,” he said, adding that all factors, consisting of negligence and constructing safety violations, are under scrutiny.

Rescue operations are ongoing despite the building’s unstable situation. officers stated about 40 percent of the plaza has collapsed, whilst search efforts continue within the remaining sections. Heavy machinery has been halted intermittently to allow rescue workers to safely enter the structure.

Javed Nab Khoso said approximately eighty deaths were confirmed thus far, at the same time as 86 human beings have been reported missing. Fourteen victims had been identified, including eight via DNA testing. Postmortems have been completed on forty eight bodies.

Authorities are also investigating whether or not emergency exits were accessible throughout the fire. Notices have been issued to six nearby buildings lacking proper fire safety arrangements.

Following the final search operation by Rescue 1122, the building may be demolished on the advice of the Sindh building control Authority, which had earlier declared the plaza unsafe.
