PESHAWAR: (Roshan Khan) A local hunter in Lower Chitral has managed to hunt a Himalayan ibex in the Arkari valley on the ongoing trophy hunting season as stated by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department.
The hunter, who was a Zeeshan Nasir, was able to take the trophy in the regulated program of the trophy hunting in the province, according to the officials in the wildlife. The Himalayan ibex, which was hunted, was estimated to be 10 years old, as said Latif ur Rehman, spokesperson of the Wildlife Department.
The officials reported that the horns of the ibex were 43.5 inches in length and thus it was a significant seasonal trophy. The search was conducted under a tight control and within the conservation regulations, the department further added.
Wildlife authorities claim that in recent years, the population of Himalayan ibex in the Arkari Valley has increased considerably as a result of both protective activities and local conservation with the help of local communities.
The regulations of trophy hunting provide that 80 percent of the money that is acquired following the hunt is distributed to Local Village Conservation Committees and rest to the government. The community welfare, education, healthcare, and conservation activities in the area use the money.
Researchers and local people have defined the trophy hunting program as an outstanding example of sustainable tourism and wildlife preservation that assists in striking a balance between the ecological protection and economical gains of the locals.
