Muzaffarabad Declares Holiday for Overseas Kashmir Conference on February 16
MUZAFFARABAD: The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has officially declared Monday, February 16, 2026, a public holiday in Muzaffarabad to facilitate the Overseas Kashmir Conference. According to the notification, all government and semi-government offices will remain closed to ensure smooth arrangements and effective security management for the high-profile international event.
The decision comes as the conference will host a large number of overseas Kashmiris and Pakistani guests. Authorities said the closure will also help maintain traffic control, administrative efficiency, and overall safety. Private commercial centers are expected to observe partial or full closures to support the event’s success. Special security duties have been assigned, and citizens are urged to cooperate with local authorities.
The conference aims to strengthen ties with the diaspora, highlight investment opportunities in Azad Kashmir, and discuss joint strategies for economic development. Key sectors such as infrastructure, education, health, tourism, and investment will be part of the agenda. Officials said the event is expected to boost investor confidence, open new avenues for regional investment, and promote sustainable development in the region.
