LAHORE: Talks between the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding Pakistan’s decision to boycott its T20 World Cup match against India have concluded, with a major breakthrough expected within 24 hours.
ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi led discussions in Lahore, joined by BCB President Aminul Islam. Sources revealed that negotiations lasted over five hours, with Naqvi focusing on resolving grievances related to Bangladesh. The ICC reportedly responded positively to BCB’s demands and proposed a formula to address their concerns. Final approval is awaited after the officials brief their respective governments.
Pakistan had announced its refusal to play India in solidarity with Bangladesh, whose request to move its matches from India due to security concerns was rejected by the ICC. As a result, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the tournament, and Pakistan declined to play its scheduled match against India on February 15.
The potential cancellation of the Pakistan-India fixture could lead to significant financial losses for the ICC. Sources confirmed that the PCB will again contact the Prime Minister regarding the matter, while further talks between ICC and BCB are expected later today.
