ISLAMABAD (Syed Muhammad Yaseen Hashmi): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, where he formally inaugurated a state-of-the-art monitoring system for passport applications, printing and performance known as “Shukra” (Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-Based Response Analytics).
On the directives of the interior minister, a 24/7 monitoring room and call centre have been made operational at the Immigration and Passports Department, while the emergency travel document system has been fully digitised to improve efficiency and transparency.
During the visit, Mohsin Naqvi was given a detailed briefing on the Shukra system. Officials explained that the advanced platform will enable real-time monitoring of passport applications and deliveries across Pakistan and abroad. Every stage, from submission of an application to final delivery, will be tracked through the system.
The interior minister appreciated the performance of the Director General Immigration and Passports and his team for introducing a technology-driven monitoring mechanism. He said Pakistan’s passport system has now been aligned with the standards of leading countries.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that the government’s objective is to provide citizens with fast, secure and transparent services of international standard. He added that the security features of Pakistani passports have been developed in line with ICAO standards, and that the use of advanced automated German machines in the passport printing process has eliminated human intervention.
Officials further briefed the minister that a digital integrated dashboard will allow daily monitoring and evaluation of operations and staff performance. The new system will also enable automatic identification of crowding at passport offices, backlog management and real-time monitoring of machinery status.
The interior minister also visited the e-monitoring room, call centre, forensic lab and modern production unit. Senior officials, including the DG FIA, DG Immigration and Passports, Chief Commissioner Islamabad and IG Islamabad Police, were present on the occasion.
