Iranian intelligence officials have reportedly made indirect contact with the Central Intelligence Agency to explore potential talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict according to a report by The New York Times. The outreach was said to have been conveyed through the intelligence service of an unnamed third country with Middle Eastern and Western officials speaking on condition of anonymity.
Washington has not issued an official response. Both the White House and the CIA declined immediate comment, while US sources expressed caution over whether Tehran or the Trump administration would commit to a short term ceasefire or diplomatic off-ramp.
At the same time Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva stated that Tehran is not currently prepared for direct negotiations with the United States.
Earlier Iran’s state run Islamic Republic News Agency reported that more than 1,000 people, including military personnel and civilians have been killed in US and Israeli strikes since Saturday.
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed visible damage to buildings near the Isfahan nuclear facility but said there was no impact on nuclear material and no risk of radiological release.
