New petition highlights severe eye condition and advanced age, urging suspension of sentence
ISLAMABAD: A fresh petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of the sentence and release on bail of the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on medical grounds.
The application, submitted by lawyers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, states that the PTI founder suffers from a serious condition in his right eye. According to the petition, Dr. Muhammad Arif from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) diagnosed the ailment, noting that blood clots have severely affected vision in the right eye.
The petition adds that due to this illness, the founder’s right eye vision has dropped to just 15 percent and effective treatment is not possible in prison. It also emphasizes his age of 73 years, urging the court to grant bail on humanitarian grounds.
The petition further requests an urgent hearing for the suspension of the sentence in light of cases including the Toshakhana-II and the £190 million reference. The Islamabad High Court has yet to announce a hearing date for the request.
