Islamabad Imambargah Blast Kills 15, Injures Dozens as Emergency Declared

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ISLAMABAD: (Ayesha Naz) A powerful explosion ripped through an Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area on Friday, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 80, according to District Administration Officials, as authorities imposed an emergency across major hospitals and placed the Federal Capital on high alert.

Police, Rescue 1122, fire brigade units and other emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly after the blast, which was heard over a wide area and sparked panic among residents. The site was sealed off for security and forensic investigations, while bomb disposal teams conducted a sweep for additional threats.

A district administration spokesperson confirmed that over 80 injured individuals were transported to hospitals across the city. Officials at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) said 32 wounded victims were admitted to their facility alone. Emergencies were declared at PIMS, Polyclinic and CDA hospitals, where assistant commissioners were deployed to oversee treatment and ensure coordination.

Islamabad police chief ordered heightened security measures citywide, including increased patrols at sensitive locations and checkpoints at major entry and exit points. Authorities said investigations were ongoing to determine the nature of the explosion, with preliminary reports suggesting a possible suicide bombing, though no official confirmation has been made.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation after receiving a briefing from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He also directed health authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.

Separately, Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas described the incident as an attack on humanity and urged Islamabad residents to donate blood for victims in critical condition.

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns following a series of recent militant incidents across Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, prompting nationwide counter-terrorism operations.
