Tehran condemns attack as civilian toll mounts amid renewed US-Israeli strikes across Iran
TEHRAN: An Israeli airstrike struck an elementary girls’ school in Minab, a city in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province, killing at least 53 people and wounding 63 others, Iranian state media reported Saturday.
The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency said rescue teams were still clearing debris from the site as the civilian toll from ongoing joint U.S.-Israeli strikes across Iran continued to rise.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted an image of the heavily damaged school on X, saying the strike killed “innocent children” and warning that the attack “will not go unanswered.”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei condemned the strike as a “blatant crime” and urged the United Nations Security Council to intervene.
Separately, Mehr News Agency reported that at least two students were killed in another Israeli strike targeting a school east of Tehran.
There was no immediate response from the United States or Israel to Iran’s claims. The escalation follows renewed U.S.-Israeli military action that has fueled fears of a broader regional conflict.
