ISLAMABAD: (Yaseen Hashmi) Italy’s interior minister and a European Union commissioner condemned a deadly suicide bombing in Pakistan’s capital and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, Pakistani officials said.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and European Commissioner Magnus Brunner contacted Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to convey condolences following the attack in Islamabad, according to an official statement.
Both leaders denounced the bombing as an act of terrorism and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. Piantedosi said he was deeply saddened by the tragic incident and stressed that the Italian government and its people stand with Pakistan during this difficult time. He reiterated Italy’s firm condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and pledged continued cooperation with Pakistan to counter shared security threats.
Brunner also extended sympathies to the victims and their families, stating that European nations stand with the Pakistani people in their time of grief.
Naqvi thanked the Italian and European leaders for their support and emphasized Pakistan’s frontline role in the global fight against terrorism. He said the international community must adopt stronger and coordinated measures to effectively combat the growing threat of terrorism worldwide.
