Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on national security in its engagement with Afghanistan stating that sovereignty and safety remain Islamabad’s foremost priorities.
Speaking on bilateral relations, the minister emphasized that Pakistan welcomes dialogue and efforts to enhance trade cooperation. However, he made it clear that meaningful progress on broader discussions would depend on decisive action against militant groups allegedly operating from Afghan territory.
Jam Kamal stated that Afghan authorities have been unequivocally informed that Pakistan cannot move forward on other matters unless concerns regarding cross border security are addressed. He underscored that the presence of safe havens for militants poses a serious challenge to regional stability and Pakistan’s internal security.
The minister stressed that Afghanistan must take effective measures against elements using its soil for activities that threaten Pakistan. He added that while Pakistan remains committed to peaceful engagement and economic collaboration security considerations cannot be compromised.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position Jam Kamal concluded that safeguarding national interests is non negotiable and sustainable bilateral progress requires mutual responsibility in tackling security threats.
