Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that Iran’s enemies will not succeed in harassing the nation until they are completely frustrated emphasising that true national strength lies in the willpower unity and resilience of the people rather than military hardware such as missiles or aircraft.
In remarks issued ahead of rallies marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution Khamenei urged Iranians to demonstrate national unity through large public gatherings saying such displays would send a strong message to adversaries and undermine hostile pressure.
In a notable development Khamenei did not attend the annual meeting with Iranian Air Force commandos on February 8 for the first time in 37 years. The ceremony commemorates the historic pledge of allegiance by Air Force officers to revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini shortly before the fall of the Shah’s regime.
Instead General Abdolrahim Mousavi Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces represented the Supreme Leader at the event according to Arab media reports. Since assuming leadership in 1989 Khamenei had attended the ceremony every year including during the COVID19 pandemic.
Analysts link Khamenei’s absence to escalating tensions between Iran and the United States as Washington has reinforced its military presence in the Gulf and wider Middle East. Iran has warned that any U.S. military strike could trigger a broader regional conflict further heightening instability.
Khamenei’s remarks underline Tehran’s continued focus on national unity while cautioning external powers against underestimating Iran’s defensive resolve.
