KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has established 300 temporary shops at Polo Ground to support traders affected by the devastating Gul Plaza incident officials said.
Authorities have installed tents to create makeshift commercial spaces for displaced shopkeepers. KMC will provide electricity at the site, while arrangements for clean drinking water and restroom facilities have also been completed to facilitate both traders and customers.
To maintain order and security at the temporary market officials confirmed that 50 city wardens will be deployed.
The measures follow the catastrophic fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road, one of Karachi’s busiest commercial arteries. The blaze led to the complete collapse of the building, claiming 86 lives and destroying more than 1,200 shops leaving hundreds of traders without income.
Meanwhile, Murad Ali Shah has assured full rehabilitation for those affected. During his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the chief minister reviewed the verification process for traders’ compensation claims.
Special counters have been set up to register losses and verify ownership documents, aiming to ensure fair and transparent distribution of financial assistance to affected business owners.
