JAMRUD KP: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has emphasized that the province’s youth should choose sports over violence. Speaking at the inauguration of the Under 16 Sports Games at Jamrud Sports Complex on Wednesday, Afridi said the event aims to engage young people in healthy and positive activities.
The games brought together around 1,000 athletes from eight merged districts and six sub divisions featuring football cricket volleybal and other sports. Afridi remarked For years our youth were taught B for Bandook (gun) but now we must teach them ‘Q for Qalam (pen).
He highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rich in talent and sporting events have been organised to discover and promote emerging players. Separate competitions will also be arranged for women, religious seminary students and minority communities ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Afridi also announced a free transport service for students in the merged districts to facilitate education. During the visit he inaugurated the Sehat Insaf Card at Jamrud Hospital, opened a 10 bed Nutrition Stabilisation Ward and launched a mobile testing laboratory to improve healthcare services.
The chief minister criticized national media bias against KP and warned that protests could be staged if his request to meet former Prime Minister Imran Khan continues to be denied.
