The Lahore High Court on Tuesday suspended the notification appointing Syed Mohsin Shah as Medical Superintendent (MS) of the Punjab Dental Hospital and issued notices to the Government of Punjab and other respondents, directing them to submit their replies.
The order was passed by Justice Khalid Ishaq while hearing a petition filed by Dr Muhammad Asim Farooqi, who challenged the appointment.
During the proceedings, counsel for the petitioner, Mian Bilal Bashir, argued that the position of Medical Superintendent had been assigned to a doctor holding an MBBS degree rather than a dental surgeon. He maintained that this appointment violated the relevant service rules governing the hospital administration.
The lawyer contended that according to the applicable regulations, the post of Medical Superintendent at a dental hospital should be filled by a professional from the dental cadre. Appointing a medical doctor instead of a qualified dental surgeon he argued, was against the established criteria for the position.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the appointment notification and sought responses from the provincial government and other concerned parties before proceeding further with the case.
