The Parliament (Ayesha Naz) unanimously passed a condolence resolution expressing deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident at Gul Plaza in Karachi. The resolution paid rich tribute to martyred firefighter Furqan Ali acknowledging his bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq suspended the routine proceedings of the House to allow the presentation of the resolution. The condolence motion was tabled by MQM member Dr. Farooq Sattar and received support from all parliamentary parties reflecting national unity over the tragic loss.
Supporting the resolution PPP Senator Sherry Rehman stated that Karachi represents the entire country, as people from all provinces reside in the city. She noted that bodies were still being recovered from the rubble of Gul Plaza and emphasized that such tragic incidents should not be politicized. Instead she urged all stakeholders to work collectively to support the affected families.
The resolution called upon the Sindh government to provide immediate assistance to the victims’ families and to take steps for the restoration of businesses affected by the incident. It also urged the federal government to extend full cooperation to the provincial authorities. Additionally, the House recommended effective and practical measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Through this unanimous resolution, Parliament declared the sacrifice of firefighter Furqan Ali a source of pride for the nation and paid heartfelt tribute to his martyrdom.
