BANNU: (Roshan Khan) Police in Pakistan’s northwestern Bannu district on Tuesday foiled a possible terror attack after they recovered and defused a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) near the Eidgah Road, officials said.
According to the police, authorities got information of a suspicious object lying along the boundary wall of the Eidgah within the limits of Domel police station. A bomb disposal team was immediately sent to the scene.
One of the items recovered during the inspection by the squad was an approximately three-kilogramme locally manufactured remote-controlled bomb. Bomb disposal experts were able to neutralise the bomb without any loss of life or property.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bannu Sajjad Khan and police officials claimed that the operation was done professionally. Following the recovery, the area was cordoned off by the police and a search operation was initiated to determine the presence of any other explosive material.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu Yasir Afridi said that the safety of lives and property of the citizens is always kept in the priority of law enforcement agencies. He added that operations against anti-state and disruptive elements would not be stopped at all.
Police have opened further investigations to identify the perpetrators of planting the explosive device and have to determine possible connexions to militant activity in the area.
