SYDNEY: (Sports Desk) Pakistan batting star Babar Azam has ended his big Bash League (BBL) stint early after being recalled to join Pakistan’s national training camp ahead of upcoming international commitments, Sydney Sixers confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Sixers said Babar would be unavailable for the remainder of the BBL 15 Finals series due to national duty. The franchise also released a farewell video message from the former Pakistan captain, in which he thanked the team management, players and fans for their support for the duration of his time in Australia.
“I really enjoyed my time here with Sydney Sixers — the boys, the coaches and especially the fans,” Babar said. “unfortunately, I have to leave the team because of national duty, but I’m taking back a lot of good memories.”
Babar praised the atmosphere at the Sydney Cricket ground, highlighting the encouragement he received from supporters throughout the tournament.
Sydney Sixers are scheduled to face Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger final, with the winner advancing to fulfill Perth Scorchers in Sunday’s BBL final.
Babar’s departure follows a disappointing performance in the Qualifier against Perth Scorchers, where he was dismissed for a second-ball duck while chasing 148. He concluded his BBL 15 campaign with 202 runs in eleven matches, including two half-centuries.
