Web Desk: A new setback has emerged for solar energy users across Pakistan as the government has further reduced the electricity purchase price under the net-metering scheme.
According to sources, the government has lowered the rate for electricity exported from solar systems by 0.66 rupees per unit, bringing the price down from 27 rupees per unit to 25.32 rupees per unit. The decision has been officially approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
Power distribution companies have announced that electricity bills for this month will be calculated according to the newly approved tariff. This reduction means that solar users will receive less credit on their electricity bills, potentially causing financial losses for households and businesses that rely on solar energy.
Initially, solar electricity was being purchased at 27 rupees per unit, but the recent cut has raised concerns among solar consumers. Experts warn that this move may not only impact the financial benefits for existing solar users but could also hinder the broader growth of solar energy in Pakistan.
