Islamabad:(Click Pakistan WEBDESK)- Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced its third oil and gas discovery within one month in the Nashpa Block of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy supply.
The discovery was made at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well, drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters. According to OGDC, the well successfully tested the Samana Suk and Shinawari formations, producing 3,100 barrels of crude oil per day and 8.15 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD). The well flowed through a 32/64-inch choke with a wellhead pressure of 3,010 psi, confirming its commercial viability.
Combined with two earlier discoveries in the same region, OGDC’s recent finds are now producing 9,480 barrels of oil per day, accounting for nearly 14.5 percent of Pakistan’s current local crude oil output. Officials said the additional production will help narrow the supply-demand gap and reduce reliance on expensive oil imports.
OGDC holds a 65 percent working interest in the Nashpa Block, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) are joint venture partners.
The discoveries come at a crucial time as Pakistan faces ongoing energy shortages. OGDC also plans to accelerate tight and shale gas exploration during 2026–27, potentially unlocking vast untapped resources across the country.
