ISLAMABAD: (Yaseen Hashmi) Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong met Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday to discuss counterterrorism efforts, internal security, and bilateral security cooperation, officials said.
During the meeting at the Interior Ministry, the Chinese envoy condemned recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan targeting civilians and security personnel. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed China’s strong opposition to terrorism in all forms. Jiang said China stands firmly with Pakistan during challenging times.
Mohsin Naqvi briefed the ambassador on recent security operations carried out by Pakistani forces in Balochistan, describing the attacks as part of an organized and premeditated campaign. He said authorities had responded effectively and were taking additional steps to ensure stability in the region.
He emphasized that protecting Chinese nationals and development projects remains a top priority for Pakistan. He announced the formation of a Special Protection Unit dedicated to safeguarding Chinese citizens and projects. Mohsin Naqvi also noted that advanced Chinese technology and equipment would support joint counterterrorism operations.
Both sides agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and expand cooperation in combating cybercrime, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding Pakistan-China strategic partnership.
Chinese officials thanked Pakistan for measures taken to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, while Naqvi expressed gratitude for China’s continued support for Pakistan. Senior officials from both countries also attended the meeting.
