ISLAMABAD Pakistan and Canada have reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation and unlocking new areas of collaboration during the sixth round of Bilateral Political Consultations held in Islamabad on Saturday February 7.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Nabeel Munir United Nations Special Secretary along with the Director General for the Americas. Canada was represented by Assistant Deputy Minister for the Indo Pacific Ambassador Weldon Epp and Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ali Khan.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in Pakistan-Canada relations noting that recent high level engagements between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand have injected fresh momentum into the partnership.
Discussions centered on strengthening trade and investment ties with a focus on priority sectors including agriculture and agri technology mining energy climate action artificial intelligence and information technology. Officials highlighted the need to facilitate business-to-business linkages and trade delegations to expand bilateral trade.
The consultations also covered regional and global developments climate cooperation, and skilled workforce development. The talks followed a key agreement reached in late 2025 enabling the export of Canadian canola to Pakistan, reflecting growing institutional cooperation and mutual confidence in future engagement.
