Following the US-Iran ceasefire, Pakistan has emerged as the centre of global diplomatic attention as it hosts high-level negotiations between the two countries in Islamabad today and tomorrow.
According to sources, the talks will take place in phases, with delegation-level meetings scheduled for today, while the main round is expected on Saturday. The US delegation will include Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and former adviser Jared Kushner, who are all set to arrive in Pakistan.
Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the venue of the talks and reviewed security arrangements ahead of the high-level diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, assuring that the visiting American delegation will be treated as special guests.
The White House spokesperson said that sensitive discussions will be held behind closed doors and that any agreement will be made strictly in the best interest of the United States.
The Islamabad talks are being closely watched globally as a critical step toward sustaining the fragile ceasefire and reducing regional tensions.
