A senior United States delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to participate in the Islamabad Talks aimed at facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, marking what officials described as a historic diplomatic moment.
The delegation also includes Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Upon arrival, the US delegation was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
Officials said the visiting dignitaries were welcomed in Islamabad’s high-security Red Zone, where initial engagements are expected to begin shortly. Pakistan reiterated its role as a facilitator, emphasizing constructive dialogue and peaceful resolution of tensions between the parties.
Dar welcomed the US delegation and praised Washington’s stated commitment to regional and global stability. He expressed optimism that all sides would engage constructively and work toward meaningful outcomes during the talks.
According to officials, the process will include the exchange of formal drafts outlining respective positions, with the United States reviewing proposals from Iran while Iranian representatives consider the American framework. Pakistan is mediating discussions with the aim of bridging differences and achieving a mutually acceptable agreement.
Earlier, an Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also arrived in Islamabad and was received by senior Pakistani leadership.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan remains committed to supporting dialogue as the preferred path to de-escalation amid regional tensions. The Islamabad Talks are being closely watched internationally as a potential breakthrough in US-Iran diplomatic engagement.
