Pakistan highlights security concerns, civilian casualties, and calls for international action on Afghanistan’s humanitarian and rights challenges
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Security Council, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that militant groups are using territory inside Afghanistan to plan and execute attacks threatening regional stability.
Speaking during a council session, the envoy said intelligence findings indicate that recent attacks targeting Pakistan were orchestrated from across the border. He stated that nearly 80 civilians lost their lives in recent incidents, emphasizing that such activities pose a significant security challenge for the wider region.
Ahmad urged the Afghan Taliban leadership to fulfill its commitments by ensuring that Afghan territory is not used to conduct operations against neighboring countries or any other state. He stressed that effective counterterrorism measures remain critical for regional peace and trust-building.
The diplomat also raised concerns about Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, highlighting economic hardships and restrictions affecting women’s rights. He called on the international community to intensify coordinated efforts to address humanitarian needs while encouraging policies that protect fundamental rights and promote long-term stability in Afghanistan.
