Pakistan has recorded the highest petrol prices in the region following a recent increase in petroleum product rates. According to sources in the Ministry of Petroleum, petrol in Pakistan currently costs around $1.15 per liter making it more expensive than in several neighboring countries.
In comparison, petrol in India is priced at approximately $1.03 per liter. Meanwhile, prices are even lower in Sri Lanka, where petrol costs about 94 cents per liter and in Bangladesh, where it is around 95 cents per liter.
The latest increase in fuel prices came after the government raised the rates of petroleum products due to rising tensions in the Middle East. Officials stated that global oil market volatility and regional instability contributed to the decision.
As a result of the recent adjustment, petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan were increased by 55 rupees per liter. The current price of petrol has reached Rs321.17 per liter, while diesel now costs Rs335.86 per liter.
The price hike is expected to have a significant impact on transportation costs and inflation, adding further pressure on citizens already facing economic challenges.
