Police launch search operation to arrest two accomplices who managed to escape after the gun battle.
PESHAWAR: A proclaimed offender and alleged drug trafficker was injured and arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police during routine patrol in the Pabbi area of Nowshera, officials said on Wednesday.
According to police, SHO Ashfaq Ahmed and his team were patrolling near the Pashtun Garhi Bypass when they signaled three men riding a motorcycle to stop on suspicion. Instead of complying, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party.
Police returned fire, injuring one of the suspects who fell from the motorcycle. He was identified as Abrar, son of Dilbar, a resident of Khan Sher Garhi Pabbi and a proclaimed offender wanted in multiple cases. Police recovered a weapon from his possession and shifted him to Pabbi Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, SDPO Pabbi Muqaddam Khan reached the scene with a heavy police contingent and launched a search operation to arrest the two accomplices who fled.
Police officials said the arrested suspect has a long criminal record at Pabbi Police Station, including cases under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act (CNSA), illegal arms possession and attempted murder.
According to police records, Abrar was nominated in several cases including 9D CNSA, 11A CNSA, 11B/11C CNSA, 15AA (illegal arms), sections 399, 400, 401 (dacoity planning) and sections 324, 353 PPC.
