MULTAN: Police conducted a late-night raid at the residence of senior politician Javed Hashmi in Multan, during which his son-in-law, Zahid Bahar Hashmi, a former PTI ticket holder, was arrested, according to police sources.
Sources said the operation was part of a broader crackdown targeting former PTI ticket holders, with raids reported in several areas of Multan. However, authorities have yet to issue an official statement outlining the charges or reasons behind the arrest.
In a video message shared after the incident, Javed Hashmi strongly condemned the police action, alleging that a large contingent of 60 to 70 police personnel entered his home late at night. He described the raid as a violation of the sanctity of the household.
“Arrest me if you want, but do not trample on the dignity of my home,” Hashmi said in the video statement.
He further alleged that police mistreated his minor grandson during the raid, an accusation that has sparked concern. The child was seen sitting beside Hashmi as he recorded his statement.
Police have so far not responded to the allegations regarding the treatment of the child or the conduct of officers during the operation. The incident has added to growing political tensions in the region.
