Massive Protests Erupt Across Gilgit-Baltistan After Iran Supreme Leader’s Death
GILGIT: Widespread protests erupted across Gilgit-Baltistan following reports of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death. Demonstrators staged rallies in Skardu, Gilgit, and surrounding areas, blocking major roads and junctions in large-scale demonstrations.
In Skardu, roads including JSR Road, Haramosh, Dambudas, and Gol were closed as protesters gathered to condemn the killing. Social media reports indicate that the UN office in Skardu was set on fire, though independent verification is pending.
In Gilgit City, critical intersections like Nad Ali Chowk and Alamdar Chowk remain shut due to sustained protests. Locals and activists expressed solidarity with Iran, demanding justice and warning against foreign intervention.
Authorities are monitoring the situation as traffic disruptions and civil unrest continue. The demonstrations reflect regional outrage over the reported killing of Khamenei, highlighting rising tensions in South Asia amid the Gulf crisis.
Observers warn that ongoing unrest in Gilgit-Baltistan may persist until Iranian authorities provide further clarification and regional leaders respond to the crisis.
