Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced free public transport services across all cities in the province to provide relief to citizens during challenging economic conditions.
Following her directive, passengers will no longer need to purchase tickets for major transport systems including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, and Speedo Bus. Additionally, travel on green electric buses will also be free.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the government will not leave the public alone in difficult times and urged citizens to use public transport instead of private vehicles under extraordinary circumstances.
She also announced a subsidy for farmers, offering Rs. 100 per liter on one liter of diesel per acre to support the agricultural sector.
Highlighting the global economic impact of ongoing conflicts, she said the world is facing an economic crisis and assured that relief measures will continue until conditions improve.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that public transport in Islamabad will also remain free for one month on the Prime Minister’s instructions. The Ministry of Interior will bear the cost of Rs. 350 million for this initiative.
It is worth noting that the federal government recently increased petrol prices by Rs. 137.24 per liter and diesel prices by Rs. 184.49 per liter, adding further financial pressure on citizens.
