LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed a 30 day province wide ban on outdoor drone flights, citing public safety concerns. The Home Department issued a notification under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure making the restriction effective immediately.
The ban allows limited exceptions for drones used indoors at venues such as halls or marquees, as well as for operations conducted by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Officials explained that unregulated drone activity poses risks to public safety, property security and the maintenance of public order. Drones could interfere with official duties, create law and order challenges, and disrupt peace across the province.
The notification emphasized that the measure is essential to safeguard citizens and critical installations from potential threats. It aims to ensure security stability and prevent untoward incidents.
The decision follows Punjab Chief Minister ’s approval of a dedicated anti drone unit to counter potential terrorist threats. She also instructed authorities to install advanced digital scanners at entry and exit points throughout the province to enhance overall security and monitoring of aerial activities.
The government urged citizens and organizations to comply with the ban to ensure public safety and avoid legal consequences during the enforcement period.
