Sargodha: A mass wedding ceremony for 156 couples was held in Sargodha under the Punjab government’s Dhee Rani Programme, aimed at supporting underprivileged families and reducing the financial burden of marriage.
The event was attended by Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Sohail Shaukat Butt as the chief guest. Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali and Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry were also present.
The ceremony reflected social inclusion, as five couples from the Christian community participated alongside others, while two couples with special needs were also part of the event. Emotional moments were witnessed as families expressed gratitude for the initiative.
Under the programme, each couple received an ATM card worth Rs200,000 from the Chief Minister of Punjab to help the newlyweds begin their married lives with dignity. Speakers said the Dhee Rani Programme has fulfilled the dreams of thousands of parents and daughters.
They added that the initiative has removed the need for families to take loans for their daughters’ marriages, with the state taking responsibility. The programme was described as a practical step toward building a welfare state through real action, promoting equality and reducing class-based divisions.
