Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to Mojtaba Khamenei following his appointment as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.
In his message, President Putin acknowledged the challenges facing Iran and expressed confidence in the new leader’s ability to guide the nation during a difficult period. At a time when Iran is facing aggression, your responsibilities in this high office will certainly require courage and dedication Putin said.
The Russian leader added that he believes Mojtaba Khamenei will continue the work and legacy of his father, Ali Khamenei, and maintain unity among the Iranian people during times of hardship. Putin also reaffirmed Moscow’s strong support for Tehran.
“Russia remains a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic of Iran and will continue to stand in solidarity with our Iranian friends,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said the appointment of Iran’s new Supreme Leader is a constitutional decision of Iran and stressed that China opposes interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
Mojtaba Khamenei 56, becomes the third Supreme Leader in Iran’s history following the death of Ali Khamenei earlier this year.
