Met Office warns of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and snowfall in northern regions as a new westerly wave moves across the country
ISLAMABAD: A new rain-bearing weather system entered Pakistan on Sunday, bringing forecasts of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in several regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Officials said a westerly wave is moving into the upper parts of the country, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms in multiple cities over the next 24 hours. Higher elevations are expected to receive fresh snowfall, while intermittent heavy rainfall may persist through April 17.
Cloudy conditions are likely to develop across northern areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, and Abbottabad, followed by rainfall later in the day.
By Monday, the system is forecast to extend its impact to major urban centers, including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot.
Meanwhile, snowfall is expected in mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
