The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that, based on astronomical calculations, Ramadan 1447 AH is likely to begin on February 19, 2026.
According to the department, the Ramadan moon is expected to be visible on the evening of February 18, corresponding to 29 Sha’ban 1447 AH. Officials stated that the birth of the new moon is predicted for February 17 at 5:01 PM. By sunset on February 18, the moon’s age is expected to exceed 25 hours, improving the chances of visibility.
The Met Office further explained that in coastal regions, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be approximately 59 minutes. This extended window is considered favourable for moon sighting with the naked eye.
Weather conditions across most parts of the country are forecast to remain clear or partly cloudy, which are regarded as suitable for observing the crescent.
While the final decision on the commencement of Ramadan rests with the relevant moon sighting authorities, the meteorological assessment indicates strong visibility prospects. The department emphasized that its projections are based on scientific parameters and are intended to assist in planning and preparation for the holy month.
